10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in my Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help that Actually Works - A True Story
by Dan Harris
published by Yellow Kite
paperback (5th anniversary edition), 242 pages
Simply, a marvellous book. Whether you're completely new to meditation or an expert, it's such an enjoyable read that the wisdom it contains seems almost to have slipped in there by accident.
from the back cover:
"After having a nationally televised panic attack, news anchor DAN HARRIS knew he had to make some changes. His meltdown helped spark a strange, unplanned odyssey, which took him from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the bizarre fringes of the American spiritual scene, meeting a host of famous names along the way. A life-long sceptic, Dan started his search deeply suspicious of self-help solutions until, to his vast surprise, he stumbled upon an effective way to manage the relentless, impossible-to-satisfy voice in his head once and for all: meditation."
Dan Harris' voice, as you can gather already from the loooong title of the book, is an irreverent, authentic voice. I like it very much, and from what other poeple have said, I am not alone.
